4 de marzo de 1945 - 17 de julio de 2026
Joseph W Finn, 81, of Saco, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, at Seal Rock Healthcare Center in Saco after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Born on March 4, 1945, in Somerville, Massachusetts, Joe was the cherished son of the late Florence A. (Downes) Finn and Richard E. Finn. He was raised in Woburn, Massachusetts, where he developed the lifelong friendships, values, and love of sports that would remain central throughout his life. Joe graduated from Woburn High School in 1963 and proudly played four years on the Woburn Tanners basketball team. He graduated from Merrimack College in 1967 where he earned a bachelor's degree from the School of Business.
Joe built an exceptional career with the same company for nearly 50 years, serving as a lead sales representative throughout Boston's South Shore region. The company, which later became Thermo Fisher Scientific, benefited from Joe's dedication, integrity, and strong relationships that he cultivated over decades of service.
Joe was deeply devoted to his first wife, Ann Marie (Lumsden) Finn, remaining steadfastly by her side until her passing in 2007. Together they shared many happy years raising their son and creating family traditions that would endure for generations. Joe rarely missed an opportunity to support his son. Whether it was a basketball game, baseball game, or high school tennis match, Joe could always be found cheering from the sidelines.
Joe also enjoyed time spent by the ocean. As a young boy, he enjoyed family vacations to Onset Beach on Cape Cod. In later years, he created countless treasured memories with family during summers at Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire, and Ocean Park, Maine. He enjoyed traveling throughout New England, particularly to Vermont and New Hampshire, and looked forward to gatherings with family during holidays with his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. In later years, Joe continued the tradition by traveling from Maine to Massachusetts to celebrate with family in the homes of his sisters.
Joe was an avid tennis player who enjoyed many years on the courts with friends from the Towanda Club in Woburn and in league tennis in Winchester. Tennis continued to play a special role in his life when he met his future wife, Diane Elvin, on the tennis courts of Ocean Park, Maine, in 2009. Their shared love of the game blossomed into a loving partnership and marriage, and they enjoyed many years playing together on various teams and as doubles partners, wintering in Florida.
Joe leaves behind his beloved wife of 16 years, Diane Elvin of Saco, Maine; his son, Joseph K Finn of Hampton, New Hampshire, and his girlfriend Qiongyu Liang of Dover New Hampshire; his stepdaughter, Shannon Daniel and her husband Patrick Daniel; his stepson, Nicholas Dubois and his wife Jessica Dubois; and his cherished step-grandchildren, Maddie Daniel, Julia Daniel, Jackson Dubois, and Caroline Dubois.
He is also survived by his loving siblings: Richard Finn and his wife Jan, Mary Sullivan and her husband Bill, and Kathy Treacy and her husband Bill. Joe will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, including Stephen Sullivan, Colleen DeRosa, Brian Sullivan, Scott Treacy, Kerry Willey, and his godchild, Kim Treacy, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Joe will be remembered for his devotion to family, his loyalty to friends, his love of tennis and the ocean, and his kind and generous spirit. His presence brought comfort, encouragement, and laughter to those fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be sent to The Ocean Park Association at PO Box 7296 Ocean park, ME 04063 (please note on the check "For the Whitney Tennis Fund in memory of Joe Finn) or the Dempsey Center which provides support for anyone impacted by cancer (17 High Street, Lewiston,ME 04240)
