Recuerdos

Peter Lacy passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, surrounded by love, after living for 21 months with glioblastoma. He was 46 years old.Peter was deeply loved and respected by those fortunate enough to know him. He was kind, intelligent, funny, compassionate, and humble. He cared deeply about other people and about the world around him. He was truly remarkable human being, father, husband, brother, son, friend, and co-worker. He accomplished many things over the course of his life, but he would tell you without hesitation that his greatest accomplishments were his two boys, Finnian and Oliver. Being their father brought Peter more joy than anything else.Peter married his high school sweetheart, Emilee Taplin-Lacy, in 2006. Introduced through a mutual friend, their relationship bloomed over time. Despite going their separate ways after high school, they stayed in touch and quickly found their way back to one another. Peter regularly made the eight-hour drive to visit Emilee at college for the weekend, undeterred by snowstorms, late nights, or the prospect of turning around and doing it all again a few days later. That devotion extended to the life Peter and Emilee created throughout their nearly three decades together and, especially, to Finnian and Oliver. Peter was happiest spending time with his family. Train trips with the boys, afternoons playing board games, dinners around the table, sharing YouTube videos or a television series on the couch, and family movie nights were the moments he enjoyed most.Peter understood that a good life isn't found only in grand gestures or once-in-a-lifetime adventures. It is made in the day-to-day; in routines, traditions, inside jokes, and simply being together. Even after his diagnosis, Peter didn't seek out or wish for a different life. He stayed the course, devoting his time to continuing the routines, activities, work, and relationships that brought him meaning and joy. Peter brought that same sense of purpose to his own pursuits. Once he decided to do something, he approached it with determination, curiosity, and resourcefulness. When Peter set his mind to something, he achieved it.Peter completed his law degree at Maine Law while he and Emilee were raising a toddler and an infant, and while Emilee was simultaneously pursuing her master's degree. He continued working while attending school and remained employed with the State of Maine for nearly 18 years. Committed to exercising his civic duty, he served as a member of the Select Board for the Town of North Yarmouth, working hard to listen to and represent the people of the town during his tenure. His lifelong love of movies inspired a goal that was quintessentially Peter: watching every film ever nominated for an Academy Award. This was no easy feat, as many of the films were obscure, located only on DVD or in special collections. Completing this goal required a trip across the country to Los Angeles in order to watch the only remaining copy of a film, available on its original reel, requiring an advance appointment to view. After watching thousands of films, spanning decades and genres, if you asked Peter what his favorite movie was, he would tell you without hesitation that is was Harvey. It’s well worth the watch (and stars one of his favorite actors, Jimmy Stewart.)Peter enjoyed challenging himself physically too. Over the course of approximately two years, he methodically cycled every public road in Cumberland, North Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Pownal, and Frye Island. He meticulously tracked each completed road, maintaining a paper map for each town completed as he worked his way through it. Months before his diagnosis, Peter completed his first 50k.Peter is survived by his wife, Emilee Taplin-Lacy; his sons, Finnian and Oliver; his siblings, David (Patrick Bush) Lacy, Christina Lacy and Caleb (Bri) Lacy; his mother, Donna Lacy; his father, Paul (Dottie) Lacy; his grandmother, Joanne Jenssen; and many cousins, extended family members, friends, and colleagues who loved him deeply.Peter's family is profoundly grateful to Dr. Lu-Emerson and the rest of the neuro-oncology team at MaineHealth, who cared for him with extraordinary expertise, dedication, and humanity throughout his diagnosis, and to the team at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, whose compassion, dignity, and guidance surrounded Peter and his family during his final days.A Celebration of Life will be held for Peter on October 11th, from noon to 3pm in the upstairs event space at Mast Landing Brewing, 200 Lower Main Street (Freeport Crossing), Freeport. All are welcome to stop by and join the family in remembering and celebrating the person Peter was and the remarkable life he lived. A brief remembrance will be held by the family at 1pm.

Emilee and family, I am so sorry about your loss. Peter was such a great person, and I enjoyed working with him at Lamey Wellehan. It was such a treat to find him working at LLBean when we were both temps for Christmas season. My heart is breaking for you. Please know you are in my thoughts!❤️ Linda Shute
